My relatives from Japan were visiting Korea, and they wanted to drink some makgeolli, so I did some research on Naver. Since they’ve already been to Seoul a few times, I wanted to choose a place that is not too touristy, and was popular among locals. Out of the ones that I have found, this one had the most neat and clean decor and drool-worthy food pictures.
I went there and I was not disappointed. *drool*
Great food. Great vibes.
Along with the chestnut makgeolli, I got these three dishes.
Other things on the menu were Korean hot pots, stews, abalone steamed rice, Korean pancakes, some wine, a wide variety of makgeolli and other traditional liquor. They had a English menu as well.
The food price ranged from 6,000 to 58,000 KRW. Most dishes were about 15,000 to 20,000 KRW. The drinks were sold by bottle, and there was a discount for people who drink makgeolli during the day.
The reservation list was long, and the place was packed by 7:30 PM. The number of people there made the place lively, and yet it felt calm. The high ceiling and second floor must have made the place feel less noisy. There were many groups that seemed to be co-workers celebrating the end of their work day.
They have a few locations of Wolhyang throughout Seoul, and I’m excited to also try their locations called Moonshine, which specialize in wine and western food.
Make sure to make a reservation on a rainy day because Koreans crave makgeolli when they hear rain. The sound of the rain drops hitting the ground reminds them of the popping sound of Korean pancakes getting grilled in oil.
