Have you recently seen the Van Gogh Latte Art on any of your news media?
This Korean barista has a cafe in Itaewon, Seoul, so my friends and I went there to see if we could also order the Van Gogh Cafe Latte.
Cafe C. Through (씨스루) is on top of a mildly steep hill, which is about a 10 minute walk from the closest subway station, Noksapyeong Station (exit 3). From exit 3, you will have to cross the bridge.
When you approach the cafe entrance, you’ll first see this sign.
It says: “Oh!? You’re so pretty today!!” 😀 A few minutes later, my friends and I realized that this was part of the cafe’s overall theme… to make girls feel happier about their day.
The counter is right next to the entrance. Find a seat first, and order. There were about five tables. It might be difficult to find seating on a busy day.
Their menu includes the Pretty Soda (예뻣소다, yepposoda), the instafamous Creamart (크림아트), Anything (아무거나, amugeona), Scaccino (스카치노), You’re pretty even if you gain weight (넌 살쪄도 예뻐), and a strawberry latte (딸솜라떼, ddalsom latte, featured in the Korean show My Little Television). They also have more standard menus like an Americano, a normal cafe latte, and a tiramisu. It seems like parts of their menu change every once in a while.
When we saw the menu, we quickly realized that we wouldn’t be able to see the Van Gogh Latte. 😦 That latte required a reservation, was for only up to three orders a day, and reservations were closed (June 2017). We didn’t have a chance to ask why the barista is not taking reservations now. In the meantime, we can only order the cute bear latte art.
UPDATE: My guess is that if you want to make a reservation for the Creamart Latte, you have to follow his instagram, and as soon as he updates about Creamart lattes, you have to send a direct message through Instagram or Kakaotalk.
My friends ordered the 아무거나, which means anything, and the barista asked for allergies, and the possibility of adding alcohol.
From left to right: 넌 살쪄도 예뻐 (strawberry banana milk), 아무거나 (cherry mojito; alcoholic version of the 예뻣소다; served with dry ice), 스카치노 (espresso with overflowing cream), and another 아무거나 (chocolate milk with some alcohol).
Another unique part of this cafe was asking for the wi-fi password. When I look for the wi-fi password at a cafe, I usually look for signs on the counter, but I couldn’t find any here. So I directly asked the barista, and his reply was “I love you.” haha… I awkwardly laughed from surprise. If he was not a handsome young man, it would have been creepy, but fortunately, that was not the case!
