Lga- A Cafe near Suyu Station *Suyu Location closed*

*January 2015 Update: the Suyu location is closed. *
It is that time of the year again!! Bingsooooo in Korea!!! I’m sure I’m not the only one excited for this.

Patbingsu is a Korean style shaved ice usually topped with fruits and red beans. “Pat” means “red beans,” so shaved ice without red beans will usually be called XX-bingsu.  The ice is more soft compared to a typical American or Japanese shaved ice. Almost all the cafes have started including this in their menu because of the warm weather.

So far I’ve had milk tea bingsu, strawberry bingsu, and green tea bingsu, but recently I found a cafe that makes a fruit-lover very happy.

This cafe is called Lga. The interior design is quite cute with the brick wall and metallic designs.

What makes the cafe unique is one of their most expensive things on the menu…

The Melon-bingsu. 13,700 KRW (~13.40 USD)

They use a small ice cream scooper to carve out of half of a melon, fill it with ice, cover it with condensed milk, and top it with the balls of melon and walnut ice cream. They serve red beans on the side, which is good for me, since I am not a big fan of red beans. This is a good amount to share between 2-3 people.

Their Strawberry-bingsu was delicious as well (9,800 KRW = 9.60 USD). I liked that they had plenty of fresh strawberries and a delicious strawberry ice cream on top. This one has red bean in it, so it’s difficult to avoid… but I’m sure you can ask it to get it on the side if you want that. 팥은 빼고 주세요? (Without red beans please?)

I haven’t tried the most expensive Mango-bingsu (16,000 KRW = 15.65 USD) because I am allergic to it. But I’m sure mango-lovers would love it!

엘가카페 is a chain cafe. I know that there is one in Gangnam, Hongdae, Konkuk University, and Mia. The Lga that I went to is a two minute walk from Suyu station exit 5. Go straight out of exit 5. Turn right at the first visible street which has a clothing store called Bang Bang and IBK bank on the two corners. Walk down the street for a minute and it’ll be at the next corner. Within that minute you’ll pass a few motels. If you see GS25 on your right, then you should see Lga on your left.

What is your favorite summer dessert?
